In 1968, the Ford GT40 triumphed at Le Mans in the 5-litre engine configuration, also taking advantage of the accidents and mechanical problems that plagued the ferocious army of Porsche 908s.

ENGINE BRAKES TRANSMISSION: Longitudinal mid-rear; 8 cylinders, 90° V-shape, 4,948 cm3; cast-iron cylinder block and light-alloy cylinder heads; camshaft timing with rocker arms and 2 valves per cylinder; fed by 4 twin-core carburettors; dry sump lubrication; liquid-cooled; max power 424 bhp at 6,500 rpm.
SUSPENSIONS: Front suspension with double wishbone, coil springs, telescopic shock absorbers and anti-roll bar. Independent rear suspension with upper wishbone, inverted lower link, double wishbone, coil springs, telescopic shock absorbers and anti-roll bar.
BRAKES: 292 mm ventilated front discs; 285 mm ventilated rear discs.
