The line of Porsche 917s came to the 38th edition of the Le Mans 24 Hours after achieving good results in the previous races of the season, and with a number of K variants, i.e. 'short-tails'. These were the cars that would enable the Zuffenhausen-based firm to triumph for the first time on the Sarthe circuit.
