Peugeot's dream of becoming the first manufacturer to race and win at Le Mans with a diesel-powered car collapsed in 2006 against Audi and its R10 TDI: the German firm, although officially the second to have had the intention of entering a diesel-powered LMP1, was the first to take this new car to victory, overtaking the Sochaux-based manufacturer which had set its sights on making its racing debut in 2007.
